{Nehemiah 3:14} But the dung 830 gate 8179 repaired 2388 z8689 Malchiah 4441 the son 1121 of Rechab, 7394 the ruler 8269 of part 6418 of Bethhaccerem; 1021 he x1931 built 1129 z8799 it, and set up 5975 z8686 the doors 1817 thereof, the locks 4514 thereof, and the bars 1280 thereof.
the dung gate:
"And I went outªº by nightª by the gateª of the valley,ª even beforeª¹ the dragonª well,ªº² and to¹ the dungª port,ª and viewedªºº²º¹ the wallsª of Jerusalem,ª which¹ were broken down,ªº and the gatesª thereof were consumedªº with fire.ª" {Neh 2:13} + "Then I brought upªº¹ the princesª of Judahª upon¹¹ the wall,ª and appointedªº twoª greatª [companies of them that gave] thanks,ª [whereof one]¹ went²¹ on the right handª upon¹¹ the wallª toward the dungª gate:ª" {Neh 12:31}
the ruler:
"And next¹ unto¹ them² repairedªº Rephaiahª the sonª of Hur,ª the rulerª of the halfª partª of Jerusalem.ª" {Neh 3:9} + "And next¹ unto¹ him² repairedªº Shallumª the sonª of Halohesh,ª the rulerª of the halfª partª of Jerusalem,ª he¹ and his daughters.ª" {Neh 3:12} + "But the gateª of the fountainª repairedªº Shallunª the sonª of Colhozeh,ª the rulerª of partª of Mizpah;ª he¹ builtªº it, and coveredªº it, and set upªº the doorsª thereof, the locksª thereof, and the barsª thereof, and the wallª of the poolª of Siloahª by the king'sª garden,ª and unto¹ the stairsª that go downªº from the cityª¹ of David.ª ... Afterª him repairedªº their brethren,ª Bavaiª the sonª of Henadad,ª the rulerª of the halfª partª of Keilah.ª" {Neh 3:15-18}
Bethhaccerem:
Beth-haccerem was a town of Judah, situated on a mountain, between Jerusalem and Tekoa, according to Jerome on "O ye childrenª of Benjamin,ª gather yourselves to fleeªº out of the midstª¹ of Jerusalem,ª and blowªº the trumpetª in Tekoa,ª and set upªº a sign² of fire¹ in¹ Bethhaccerem:ª for¹ evilª appearethªº out of the north,ª¹ and greatª destruction.ª ... Reprobateªº silverª shall [men] callªº them, because¹ the LORDª hath rejectedªº them." {Jer 6:1-30}. Dr. Pococke conjectures that the Mountain of the Franks, called also the Mount of Bethulia, from a village of that name near it, west-north-west of Tekoa, is the ancient Beth-haccerem; the position of which seems to agree with the citadel of Herodium, built by Herod, on a moderate-sized hill, sixty furlongs from Jerusalem. "O ye childrenª of Benjamin,ª gather yourselves to fleeªº out of the midstª¹ of Jerusalem,ª and blowªº the trumpetª in Tekoa,ª and set upªº a sign² of fire¹ in¹ Bethhaccerem:ª for¹ evilª appearethªº out of the north,ª¹ and greatª destruction.ª" {Jer 6:1}
