the dung gate:

Bethhaccerem:
Beth-haccerem was a town of Judah, situated on a mountain, between Jerusalem and Tekoa, according to Jerome on "O ye childrenª of Benjamin,ª gather yourselves to fleeª º out of the midstª ¹ of Jerusalem,ª and blowª º the trumpetª in Tekoa,ª and set upª º a sign² of fire¹ in¹ Bethhaccerem:ª for¹ evilª appearethª º out of the north,ª ¹ and greatª destruction.ª ... Reprobateª º silverª shall [men] callª º them, because¹ the LORDª hath rejectedª º them." {Jer 6:1-30}. Dr. Pococke conjectures that the Mountain of the Franks, called also the Mount of Bethulia, from a village of that name near it, west-north-west of Tekoa, is the ancient Beth-haccerem; the position of which seems to agree with the citadel of Herodium, built by Herod, on a moderate-sized hill, sixty furlongs from Jerusalem. "O ye childrenª of Benjamin,ª gather yourselves to fleeª º out of the midstª ¹ of Jerusalem,ª and blowª º the trumpetª in Tekoa,ª and set upª º a sign² of fire¹ in¹ Bethhaccerem:ª for¹ evilª appearethª º out of the north,ª ¹ and greatª destruction.ª" {Jer 6:1}
