- he slew:

Whoso sheddethªº man'sª blood,ª by manª shall his bloodª be shed:ªº for¹ in the imageª of Godª madeªº he¹ man.ª" {Gen 9:5-6} + "But if¹ a manª come presumptuouslyªº upon¹ his neighbour,ª to slayªº him with guile;ª thou shalt takeªº him from¹¹ mine altar,ª that he may die.ªº" {Exd 21:14} + "Moreover ye shall takeªº no¹ satisfactionª for the lifeª of a murderer,ªº which¹ [is] guiltyª of death:ªº but¹ he shall be surely²º put to death.ªº ... So ye shall not¹ polluteªº¹ the landª wherein¹ ye¹ [are]: for¹ bloodª it¹ defilethªº¹ the land:ª and the landª cannot¹ be cleansedªº of the bloodª that¹ is shedªº therein, but¹¹ by the bloodª of him that shedªº it." {Num 35:31-33}; No doubt those wicked men, Jozachar and Jehozabad, who murdered his father, had considerable influence; and therefore he found it dangerous to bring them to justice, till he was assured of the loyalty of his other officers: when this was clear, he called them to an account, and justly put them to death for treason and murder; for, if even these conspirators against Joash intended to avenge upon him the death of Zechariah, they acted without a commission from that God "to whom vengeance belongeth."
