the LORD[YHWH]:
"[And that] the whole land thereof [is] brimstone, and salt, [and] burning, [that] it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom, and Gomorrah, Admah, and Zeboim, which the LORD overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:" {Deu 29:23} + "It shall dwell in his tabernacle, because [it is] none of his: brimstone shall be scattered upon his habitation." {Job 18:15} + "Upon the wicked he shall rain snares, fire and brimstone, and an horrible tempest: [this shall be] the portion of their cup." {Psa 11:6} + "Except the LORD of hosts had left unto us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom, [and] we should have been like unto Gomorrah." {Isa 1:9} + "And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees' excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah." {Isa 13:19} + "And let that man be as the cities which the LORD overthrew, and repented not: and let him hear the cry in the morning, and the shouting at noontide;" {Jer 20:16} + "As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour [cities] thereof, saith the LORD, no man shall abide there, neither shall a son of man dwell in it." {Jer 49:18} + "As God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah and the neighbour [cities] thereof, saith the LORD; [so] shall no man abide there, neither shall any son of man dwell therein." {Jer 50:40} + "For the punishment of the iniquity of the daughter of my people is greater than the punishment of the sin of Sodom, that was overthrown as in a moment, and no hands stayed on her." {Lam 4:6} + "Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom, pride, fulness of bread, and abundance of idleness was in her and in her daughters, neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ... And they were haughty, and committed abomination before me: therefore I took them away as I saw [good]." {Ezk 16:49-50} + "How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? [how] shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? [how] shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together." {Hsa 11:8} + "I have overthrown [some] of you, as God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah, and ye were as a firebrand plucked out of the burning: yet have ye not returned unto me, saith the LORD." {Ams 4:11} + "Therefore [as] I live, saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom, and the children of Ammon as Gomorrah, [even] the breeding of nettles, and saltpits, and a perpetual desolation: the residue of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my people shall possess them." {Zph 2:9} + "And thou, Capernaum, which art exalted unto heaven, shalt be brought down to hell: for if the mighty works, which have been done in thee, had been done in Sodom, it would have remained until this day. ... But I say unto you, That it shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom in the day of judgment, than for thee." {Mtt 11:23-24} + "Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; ... But the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed [them] all." {Lke 17:28-29} + "And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes condemned [them] with an overthrow, making [them] an ensample unto those that after should live ungodly;" {2Pe 2:6} + "Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire." {Jde 1:7}
brimstone:
The word rendered "brimstone," (q.d. brennestone, or brinnestone, id est burning-stone), is always rendered by the LXX "sulphur," and seems to denote a meteorous inflammable matter.
